Shot a while ago, over the weekend of my birthda

Shot a while ago, over the weekend of my birthday in New Plymouth. A series of minimalist moments of 'ordinary beauty', evoking a calm simplicity.
As we left our airbnb, just after we arrived, the front of the building was painted in the most amazing peach/pink paint with splashes of soft turquoise. It had a big crack in the window frame surround and the metal had leaked a rust pattern over the soft colours. Set against concrete skies and black sands, my eyes seemed to be drawn to soft colours and any moment of gentle decay.
The New Plymouth series is a study of rust patterns, crumbling brickwork, worn paint or ageing typography. I'm as fascinated by 'modern' decay as some of the relics I've photographed in Pompeii.

Shot a while ago, over the weekend of my birthday in New Plymouth. A series of minimalist moments of ordinary beauty . Set against concrete skies and black sands, my eyes seemed to be drawn to soft colours and any moment of gentle decay or abstraction. The wonderful undulating exterior of the Len Lye gallery helped with this.

Sometimes at the end of a day, exploring a city on foot, and leisurely observing life just quietly going on around me. I download my shots and realise that unconsciously, I've either been collecting the same colour palette or a particular angle or style of architecture all day. The mind is a curious thing.
